The Interacting Minds lab welcomes applications from motivated undergraduate students, prospective graduate students, and post-doctoral scholars.
PhD Opportunities (2025 start)
I am keen to support PhD applications across the domains of social cognition and social cognitive neuroscience, with research exploring human interactions (including communication, social and interactive cognition, social attention, perspective taking, social motivation), and the cognitive mechanisms underlying interpersonal functioning (including executive functions, contextual factors, individual differences).
Projects span different methods, including EEG and eye-tracking, as well as different populations, including developmental/lifespan perspectives, clinical perspectives (particularly autism spectrum disorders and ADHD), and cross-cultural perspectives.
Example Potential Projects:
Cognitive Mechanisms of Interpersonal Functioning: A Multimodal Study of Executive Functions and Social Interactions in Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD
Exploring the Neural Correlates of Social Attention: An EEG and Eye-Tracking Investigation of Perspective-Taking Across the Lifespan
Cross-Cultural Variations in Social Cognition: Understanding Individual Differences in Communication and Social Attention through Behavioural and Neural Measures.
This list is not exhaustive, and potential applicants are encouraged to get in touch discuss research ideas that they think would be a good fit to the research we conduct in the Interacting Minds Lab at the University of St Andrews by emailing Lizzie Bradford ([email protected]). Please include in your email details about your research interests, your current CV, and any details on specific skills you would like to develop over your PhD (e.g., EEG, eye-tracking).
You can find out more research within the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of St Andrews here. Information on Postgraduate Research Courses, including PhD opportunities and funding, can be found here.
What funding is available? There are a number of potential funding sources that can be explored. Deadlines typically range from mid-November - January for a September start date. More details on potential funding sources can be found here, and please get in contact to discuss options further.
Undergraduate Opportunities (2025)
We are always happy to hear from motivated and pro-active undergraduate students who would like to develop their research skills further, and work within the Interacting Minds Lab. This includes opportunities during semester time, as well as outside of semester time. There are a number of potential funding opportunities for summer research projects if you have a specific research project in mind, which we would be happy to support. Deadlines for summer vacation scholarships are typically between January - March (e.g., February 2025 for a project running May-August 2025).
If you would like to find out more about opportunities, please get in contact with Lizzie Bradford via email, detailing the type of research you are interested in and what skills you would like to develop within the lab.
